Conservation of Energy

Conservation of Energy

Law of Conservation of Energy - the total amount of energy remains constant in an isolated system. Energy can also neither be created or destroyed but only changed from one form to another.
  • Ei = Ef
  • KEi + SPE+ GPEi = KEf + SPEf + GPEf
  • SI unit = Joules
  • American unit = BTU
              Example Problems:
  • Ki + PEi = Kf + PE
  1. A boy that has a mass of 45kg is standing on a 12 meter house. He decides to jump off into the pool below. How fast is he moving when he hits the water?
  2.  A girl is riding her bike at 15 m/s and decides to ride down a 24 meter hill. How fast is she moving at the bottom if she is 77kg?
